I’m so excited about the fact that CERN is testing out the Large Hadron Collider which will commence on September 10 of this year. I’m obsessed with particle physics. Here’s the article from Cnet regarding CERNs particle accelorator and the acceleration of subatomic particles.

Considered one of the world’s largest physics experiments to date, the Large Hadron Collider is a gigantic particle accelerator located in a nearly 17-mile-long circular tunnel along the French-Swiss border about 330 feet underground. It was built by the European Organization for Nuclear Research, also known as CERN.

In experiments scheduled to begin on September 10, the LHC will accelerate two beams of subatomic particles–called hadrons–in opposite directions to more than 99.9 percent the speed of light. Smashing the beams together will create showers of new particles for physicists to study using special detectors.

Ever thought about those people in your raid when playing WoW, EQ or even (shudder) Guild Wars? I’m lucky that on the Bonechewer Server I play in Crimson Guard, where all we have are The Drunks. We are the kick ass and take no prisoners type of guild. But for the rest of the type cast players theres wiki to help you identify them and their perspective roles. Here is a snippet of that page:

The GM

He’s sacrificed his health, friends, and probably a couple of jobs to drag you through new content. When the guild isn’t performing, these decisions are in question. Prone to shooting sprees, forum flame wars, and the rapid advancement/gearing of whatever toon the guild “needs”. If you can keep your mouth shut, he’ll go emo and quit before you get gkicked. Still, you do like the guy. Or did. Before he went crazy. See drunks, below.

The GM’s Significant Other

Okay, so he was going to have to quit but he tricked his SO into playing. She loves it. She’s terrible. You’ll effectively 24 man every boss. Count on 4 constructs in the raid, every attempt. She plays a Blood Elf or Night Elf.

The Heir Apparent

When the GM goes psycho, ninjas the bank, and gdisbands, you’re the guy the guild is gonna look to to to fix the mess. You see it coming. You can’t decide if ritual suicide or being the new gm would be more painful.

You would do what any respectable gamer would do. Install WoW and crank it up. That’s what one of the kotaku readers, who remained nameless so he wouldn’t get his ass kicked, did when he had to set up a government office. Of course he played other kick ass games like Bioshock when done with the set up as well. Here’s the image he sent in to them.

I don’t think there is anyway I would be able to play Wow on that screen. I would get overwhelmed and completely stupefied. But I know I’de be able to kick some halo ass on it for sure!
